ART OF DYING - When Life Ends
ART OF DYING - When Life Ends
“In the process of letting go you will lose many things from the past,
but you will find yourself"
- Deepak Chopra -
After the death of my father, I made a series of paintings about the process of dying and journeying to a new world. This series is a visualization about what I think the end stage looks like. The paintings are accompanied by lyrics from OSHO.
By diving deeper into the matter of the last phase of life and death, it has given me more resignation and understanding in coping with the sudden personal loss. My goal in creating this series was twofold: to give it a personal place, as well as to offer comfort and understanding for people who have also experienced a loss; and to take away fear/give confidence and peace to those who know they are going to die soon.
Part 1
Part 1

"Death is destiny. It has to be so because it is the origin - you come from death and you go to death. Life is just a moment between two nothingnesses, just a flight of a bird between two states of non-being"
- OSHO -
Part one shows the actual moment of going into the dying process. There is a clear line, where life on earth is cut after a holy cloud passes by to end life on earth. Just as life starts in water (amniotic fluid), I think it “ends” in water as well. When we are born, the umbilical cord is cut. This is a physical cord. But the spiritual cord stays intact until we die.
The dying person falls because now also the spiritual cord is cut, and falls into the water which functions as a transition medium. A short splash of water drops is visible in the world on earth where people can notice that someone is going to die. After the fall, the dying person goes deeper and deeper into the blackening water.
